Featuring a slate-colored shell and yellow to orange chair, the mussel is one of the most popular seashells. Because it filters water, it is very sensitive to its environment. Our organic Breton mussel is raised in the open sea near seaweed fields which provide them with all the nutrients necessary for their growth. Fleshy and rich in taste, our local mussels have a smooth shell without any roughness thanks to the natural mixing of their environment.
The mussels have a good iodine taste and subtle flavors that are closely linked to the quality of the water in which they are raised. As our local water is a guarantee of quality, our mussels have a pronounced taste and a high level of flesh. They lend themselves to an infinite variety of preparation: in tapas, in cream, in curry, in quiche, in soup, stuffed, cooked on embers …
Very low in calories, mussels are rich in iron and vitamin B12, two excellent « anti-fatigue » agents.
The shell must not be broken or cracked and shall close immediately at the slightest stimulation. A mussel that floats when placed in water should not be consumed. After cooking, they must be opened.
